The added weight and only small increase in size helps the LS170 cast farther and hold the water with higher line angles. The nature of HDPE lends itself well to durability and in combination with and a 1.8mm thick 316 stainless steel thru-plate, the LS170 will handle hard impacts with the rocks or the power of the biggest fish.
